Who we are
Our website address is: https://thirdhorizonpolicy.org.
Effective Date: July 2, 2025
Third Horizon Policy Institute (“we,” “our,” or “us”) is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights when you interact with our website, including contact forms, comments, and any embedded or user-generated content.
Contact Form
If you use our contact form, we collect:
- Your name
- Your email address
- Any message or information you voluntarily include
We only use this information to respond to your inquiry or follow up, and we do not share it without your consent.
Comments
When visitors leave comments, we collect the data shown in the comments form, along with the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.
If you use Gravatar, an anonymized hash of your email may be sent to Gravatar to check for an associated profile. Their privacy policy is here: Gravatar Privacy. Once your comment is approved, your profile picture will be visible to the public alongside your comment.
Media
If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.
Cookies
If you leave a comment, you may opt to save your name, email, and website in cookies for convenience. These cookies last for one year.
Other cookies may be set for login, display settings, and publishing functions:
- Login cookies last 2 days (or 2 weeks if “Remember Me” is checked).
- Screen preference cookies last for 1 year.
- Article edit cookies expire after 1 day.
We may also use temporary cookies to test browser compatibility and basic session functionality. These cookies do not store personal data.
Embedded content from other websites
Articles on this site may include embedded media (e.g. YouTube videos, Tweets, articles). Embedded content behaves the same as if you visited the source site directly, and those sites may collect your data, use cookies, or track your interactions — especially if you’re logged into their platform.
We are not responsible for the privacy practices of external websites.
Who we share your data with
If you request a password reset, your IP address will be included in the reset email.
Analytics
We may use basic analytics tools (like Google Analytics or native site metrics) to understand general site traffic and improve user experience. These tools may collect anonymized data such as browser type, region, and session duration. We do not track individual users or use this data for advertising.
How long we retain your data
If you leave a comment, it and its metadata are retained indefinitely to recognize follow-up comments and reduce spam moderation.
If user accounts are enabled in the future, we will store the profile information you provide. Users can view, edit, or delete their own data at any time (except usernames). Admins can also access and manage user profiles.
Where data is sent
We do not sell or rent your data. If you request a password reset, your IP address may be included in the reset email. Comments may also be processed through an automated spam detection service.
Your rights
If you have an account or have left comments, you may request:
- A copy of the personal data we hold about you
- That we delete any personal data we’ve stored
We will fulfill your request unless we are legally required to retain certain information for administrative or security purposes.
To make a data request, email us at info@thirdhorizonpolicy.org
Policy Updates
